It has an antimicrobial spectrum mainly against gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, Proteus, Serratia) and has activity against certain gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus, S. epidermidis, L. monocytogenes). In combination with beta-lactam antibiotics it is effective in infections caused by E. fecalis and Streptococcus sp.
