Faced with such a bleak outlook, the characterization and updating of clinical and laboratory limits for the definition of obesity, systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) and dyslipidemia has been a constant concern. Guidelines developed by experts, in research groups accredited by important medical societies and bodies of reputed credibility, are available for use4-6. 4-6 The application of these guidelines enables the real knowledge of the dimension of the problem in the most different populations, in addition to allowing comparison between groups around the world.
Hip and waist measurements were taken with a flexible tape measure, with maximum sensitivity for 0.1cm, at the circumferences established at the level of the iliac crests and at the equidistant point between the iliac crests and the costal ridge, respectively.
The detection of systolic and diastolic HAS, isolated or analyzed together, in addition to the findings of TC > 170 mg/dL, LDL > 110 mg/dL and triglycerides > 150 mg/dL, were significantly higher in the presence of obesity when compared with the other groups.
Introduction. Obesity in the pediatric population has been progressively increasing and medical management of morbid obesity in this population has been shown to be insufficient. The aim of this article was to describe the current status of the scientific literature published as of April 15, 2021, on the impact of bariatric surgery in the pediatric population.
